Boruto Naruto Next Generations Episode 40 Summary
Boruto, Sarada, and Mitsuki have come together and formed ‘Team 7’. The three, led by Jonin Sarutobi Konohamaru, have received their first mission. The mission details the repelling of bandits who have been attacking a village, and making it so that they never come back again. Boruto and the others immediately depart for the village, and come face-to-face with a young woman named Kiri, who is the daughter of the village chief who had suddenly passed away and has inherited her father’s role, and the others who support her..
The First Mission
To begin with, Episode 40 of Boruto Naruto Next Generations opens with Boruto, Sarada, and Mitsuki meeting up with Konohamaru at the Hokage’s office to have their first mission assigned to them by Naruto. It is revealed that the tradition for a Genin’s first mission will always be assigned by the Hokage. As the summary states, the team is assigned what they think is a C rank mission to defeat bandits that have been stealing food from another village. However when Team 7 arrives to the village being attacked, things take a different turn.The True MissionIt is revealed by the leader of the village, Kiri, that the bandits have hired Shinobi to try and steal the village’s deed for a bridge instead of food. This unmentioned information now ranks the mission from a C rank to a B rank (which is not suitable for beginning Genin). Konohamaru tries to reason with Kiri to request new Shinobi to replace Boruto, Sarada, and Mitsuki, however one of the Shinobi stabs a villager interrupting their conversation and not allowing the Genin to leave and be replaced. This leaves Konohamaru in a bind as he is responsible for the safety of the new Genin who are not prepared for a mission this intense.
Team 7’s Failure
As night approaches, Team 7 take precaution to stay outside in case the Shinobi try to do a sneak attack. And that is exactly what happens as one of the Shinobi is actually a villager that can put people under Genjutsu. The Shinobi lights Team 7’s tent on fire and traps team 7 on the ground surrounded by villagers under Genjutsu. Mitsuki decides to suppress his Wind Style technique and blows away the villagers without killing any of them. However, the Shinobi manages to escape and kidnap the leader of the village, Kiri, with him. The Shinobi’s faces are revealed towards the end of the episode and their leader says that he does not want to cross swords with the Hidden Leaf because he is aware of the powerful Shinobi there.
In conclusion, Boruto Naruto Next Generations Episode 40 was a great episode to begin the new year with. We have a brand new arc with new characters before entering the Boruto – Naruto the Movie arc. And we also got a brand new ending song and visual for this season. Boruto ending 4 is titled, Denshintamashii (Telegraph Soul) and is performed by Jikkyōsha Wakuwaku Band.
